Grade 1 & Up Programs

The FUNdamental Levels-(Gr. 1-2)

The Fundamental levels develop the movement patterns that must be mastered to successfully perform all future gymnastics skills, regardless of their level of complexity.  Skills in these levels are grouped into one of the six gymnastics FMPs of Landings Locomotions, Stationary Positions, Rotations, Springs and Swings.  In the FUNdamental levels participants work on covering the first 4 levels of the Canadian Gymnastics Program.

At the FUNdamental levels skills are designed to be taught to mixed gender groups on a wide variety of non-competitive (benches, boxes, trapezoids, wall bars, donuts, mates, etc.) and competitive gymnastics apparatus modified for kids.  Each skill must be taught on many different apparatuses to make sure the FMPs are well-mastered.

Physically fit participants should be able to complete these levels in four to five sessions, based on a 14-week session and a 1-hour class per week (or over 2 consecutive annual programs).  These levels are not meant to be passed in a session and are progressive over a 2-year period.

Participants will be working on progressive skills from the CanGym program and other skills that the coach and athletes are wanting to focus on.

Specialty Programs

Ninjas and Parkour

Our Ninja classes are an action-packed adventure class for the participant who is looking to run, jump, balance and roll.  Army crawling, shoulder rolls, balance jumps and more are all part of this energy filled program.  Participants will start to develop and master fundamental movements skills in a fun, energetic and upbeat program.  Each program is tailored to the appropriate age group and skills continue to develop and advance through the program levels.

Parkour is the discipline or sport of running through an area using acrobatic techniques to negotiate obstacles quickly and efficiently. The word parkour is an alteration of the French word parcours which means route or course.

Free running is the sport of using creative movements such as flips or twists while moving through all kinds of environments. Using your surroundings to your advantage to move and create flow with your body.

Parkour has been referred to as an alternate fitness concept which presents a different way to stay fit other than going to the gym. While improving personal fitness parkour also improves coordination. By training the basics, running, jumping, and moving on all fours, overcoming obstacles that may have seemed too challenging before, are now possible.
